Answered questions

Do I need a change order for a small change on a construction job?

Usually yes. A change that adds cost or time is a change to the contract, and work outside the contract is not clearly authorized without a written, approved change order. Check your own contract for any threshold.

How long is the PoPs Suite free trial, and what is included?

The free trial lasts 14 days with full access to all 9 core modules. No credit card is required, and nothing is charged unless you choose to buy later.

How much does PoPs Suite cost?

Plans start at $49 a month. Starter is $49 a month, Pro is $179 a month, and Enterprise is $349 a month, with annual and pay-once options also available.

What is cost to complete, and why does it matter?

Cost to complete is your honest estimate of what it will still cost to finish a job. Added to the cost to date, it gives a forecast of the final cost and the profit you are really on track to make.

What is retainage, and how is it calculated?

Retainage is a percentage of each progress payment, often 5 to 10 percent, that the owner holds back until the job is complete. It is calculated from the cumulative work completed, not from each month alone.

What is the difference between an AIA G702 and a G703?

The G703 is the continuation sheet that lists the work line by line. The G702 is the application and certificate for payment that adds it up and shows the amount due this period.

What is the difference between an RFI and a submittal?

An RFI is a question about the drawings or specs. A submittal is a proposal, product data or shop drawings sent for approval before something is installed.
